About The Hybrid: Gorilla Glue 4 Strain
So what is the Gorilla Glue strain anyway? Gorilla Glue weed is a hybrid marijuana strain that was bred in 2013 by breeder Joesy Whales. It’s an Indica-dominant hybrid made up of three different strains: Chocolate Diesel, Sour Dubb, and Chem’s Sister (Chem Sis).
This combination results in a powerful yet balanced high that brings together a combination of both Indica and Sativa effects. There are various Gorilla Glue Weed strain types, including the Original, Gorilla Glue 4 strain, GG4 strain, and Auto varieties. GG4 strain has a THC content between 18% and 25% and is mostly Indica (60%), with the remaining 40% being Sativa. So its high THC levels and potency can vary depending on where it was cultivated and the phenotype of the plant.
Here’s a cool fact: There has been a controversy surrounding the name of the Gorilla Glue strain, which shares its name with a type of craft glue. The Gorilla Glue Company sued GG Strains LLC for violating one of its registered trademarks and harming its reputation as a family-oriented business. Several limitations were imposed on the marijuana strain, and as a result, most dispensaries now use the names GG4 strain or Original Glue.
The Gorilla Glue strain has firmly established itself as an award-winning powerhouse in the cannabis world, securing top honors at various Cannabis Cups. Celebrated for its sticky and resinous buds, this strain is not only a flavor sensation but also renowned for inducing a potent «couch-locked» experience, a quality that has consistently impressed judges and contributed to its consistent success in competitions. Gorilla Glue’s dominance in the Cannabis Cups reaffirms its status as a top-tier strain, celebrated for its unique attributes and the unforgettable, relaxing sensation it brings to enthusiasts.
Appearance
The GG4 strain typically has very large trichomes that give it a sticky texture. This is why it’s called «glue.» The buds are often covered in so many white trichomes that it’s hard to see the dark green flowers underneath. Although Gorilla Glue weed nugs may have shades of dark blue or purple, they are often hidden under the white trichomes. Though the pistils of Gorilla Glue 4 strain usually don’t attract attention, occasionally, there is a nice variety of orange hairs on this potent strain.
Flavor
The Gorilla Glue strain has a unique flavor that blends together sour and earthy notes. It is quite pungent, with sour aromas of diesel fuel, coffee, and charred wood. On the palate, it offers hints of chocolate and pine, as well as a subtle sweetness on the exhale.
Aroma
GG4 Strain aroma is pungent and earthy, boasting an intense diesel fuel scent that lingers in the air for minutes after being smoked. Alongside the diesel notes, there are also hints of coffee and charred wood that give this strain a unique complexity. Sweetness can be detected on the exhale, with faint notes of chocolate and pine.
Terpenes
The Gorilla Glue strain has a rich and unique terpene profile, which are responsible for its unique flavor and aroma. The most dominant terpenes in this strain include limonene, caryophyllene, and myrcene. Limonene gives it a citrusy taste and aroma, while caryophyllene contributes a spicy and earthy flavor. Myrcene adds a musky undertone and may also enhance the psychoactive effects of the strain. Together, these terpenes give Gorilla Glue weed its signature taste and scent.

Original Glue – Fake Glue Day 41 – Chunky Nugs
This is definitely not the Original Glue but even so my Fake Glue is developing some nice chunky nugs. She does have glue genetics but no way to tell if she’s an S1 or something else crossed with the glue.
The main difference is she is not as stretchy. She makes those long laterals like the glue but not as many. The smell is similar and so is the buzz based on an early bud sample.
She doesn’t have the frost the original has either but she still has time. She does look like she is an early finisher. The bud calyxes are beginning to swell and most of the trichomes are going from clear to milky.
Although not having the original was a disappointment, this cut may be worthy of a second run if the final yield and potency are there.
I am still running Canna Aqua Flores and I am also trialing some New Millennium Winter Frost for my local hydro store. It is supposed to be a late finisher/maturing agent that promotes heavier buds, resin and terpenes. It is supposed to be used in the last 7-10 days before flush. My nute levels were reduced to about 500 ppm because flush is not that far off.
Not sure what is in it at 0.2-2.2-2.3 it appears to me just to be a weak bloom booster but who knows. Lots of things are not on the label for many products in order to protect proprietary secrets. I am a bit skeptical and I also like to know what I am feeding my plants. But this seems like an ideal situation to test something new. Here are some pics:
Gorilla Glue Lineage and Genetics
Renowned cannabis breeders crossed Sour Dubb, Chem’s Sister, and Chocolate Diesel cannabis strains to produce this legendary indica hybrid. GG Strains’ breeders Joesy Whales and Lone Watie named the bud “Gorilla Glue #4” due to the plant’s heavy stickiness and high resin production.
During the trimming process, Gorilla Glue would get a trimmer’s fingers and scissors stuck, just like the powerful adhesive brand.
Sour Dubb, also known as Sour Dubble, is an energizing clone-only strain believed to be derived from an East Coast Sour Diesel and Sour Bubble strain. Sour Dubb passes on its dense bud structure and high trichome levels, as well as its sweet and sour scent.
Chem’s Sister, also known as Chem Sis or Chemdog A, is a sativa-dominant phenotype of the legendary Chemdawg strain. Developed in the mid-90s, Chem’s Sister features a skunky and diesel aroma, as well as cerebral effects also found in GG strains.
Chocolate Diesel, also known as Choco Diesel or Chocolate D, is a cross between Sour Diesel and Chocolate Trip/Thai. Chocolate Diesel delivers a burst of euphoria that compares to a jolt of caffeine. Its earthy, chocolatey, skunky, and diesel notes can also be found in its Gorilla Glue child.
Today, you can find many different strains made with the original Gorilla Glue genetics. One of the descendants of the GG strain is Super Glue, a hybrid strain developed by John Dieser of Verano brands. Super Glue is backcrossed with Original Glue to reap more of the diesel aroma and floral flavor of its parent.
Ivan is another child of Gorilla Glue. Bred by Washington-based Hesperides Genetics, Ivan is a cross between Granddaddy Purple, Cotton Purple Chem, and (Chemdog x Gorilla Glue). Ivan strains display a purple hue and have sticky buds.

Gorilla Glue #4 grow tips
While GG#4 is considered to be a pretty easy strain to grow, there are a few considerations worth noting before throwing those seeds down into any old soil.
This strain became a hit with growers as quickly as it did with consumers, thanks the ease of cultivation and how well it takes to both indoor and outdoor cultivation settings. But, if you are wanting to get the very best results possible, we recommend —
- Keep your mind on the rootball — A heavy trichome producer like GG#4 needs to have an extremely well-developed and robust rootball BEFORE you switch to flower. We like to veg this strain for a minimum of 4 weeks, but a little longer is better.
- The strain responds well to HST — You are going to want to get those pruning sheers out, and be ready to lollipop the living sh** out of her. Topping is also recommended, as is throwing her under a SCroG net.
- GG4 is a heavy feeder and can handle all the light you are able to throw her way — Crank that LED panel to full power as soon as the third node has developed, and leave it there until its time to harvest.
⛳ From Gorilla Glue to Original Glue
This strain is named for its extra-sticky resin, and everyone who touches it understands the reason perfectly. It is a name that everyone liked very much, as it was very catchy and represented the variety very well. But there were some people who did not like that name, the owners of the glue brand Gorilla Glue, and as they have it registered the name of the cannabis plant had to be changed to Original Glue or GG#4.
It is paradigmatic that the glue company was upset because they had used their brand for a weed and wanted to disassociate themselves so as not to give themselves bad publicity, and in the long run what has happened is that thanks to Glue cannabis now many more people know about these glues.
Wrapping it up
It is a fact that the MARIJUANA industry is going a notch higher than it did in the past. The market has many different strains but very few can match the potency of Gorilla Glue # 4 strain. Its intense high and medical benefits outsmart many other strains in the market with a high THC percentage and a comfortable CBD percentage that make it ideal for both worlds.
The 50/50 indica/sativa blend is also one you will not find in many other strains, which makes it stand out from the rest. The balance enables the strain to give both calming and energizing effects in equal measure. It is also an easy buy as is one of the most marketed top shelf product of the cannabis family. Whatever reason you use Gorilla Glue Weed for, you will not regret the experience.

Gorilla Glue 4 | Essential information
Gorilla
Glue Strain, also known as Gorilla Glue and GG4, is a hybrid strain, a 70/30
combo of Sativa and Indica. The reason the strain has multiple names is because
of copyright issues.
Gorilla
Glue Company, an American adhesive brand famous for its gorilla super glue,
makes high-quality glue that expands three times into the materials to form an
incredibly strong bond.
Upset
at having their name stolen, the company sued the growers and won
the lawsuit,
reclaiming its name. Now, anyone selling or making Gorilla Glue has to call it
GG or GG strains.
Discovered
in 2013, Gorilla Glue is a relatively recent cannabis strain. Unlike the
original Gorilla Glue, which perfectly bonds wood, stone, metal, ceramic, foam,
or glass, GG4 bonds Chem’s Sister, Sour Diesel, Sour Dubb, and Chocolate
Diesel.
As
it has so many parent strains, it’s more unique than other strains, which only
have one or two. In contrast to other cannabis strains, Gorilla Glue is more
dominant and intense.
Effects
Like
other cannabis strains, you either smoke Gorilla Glue or ingest it. If you buy
it, you can get it as in herb, oil, tincture, or even edible form.
Since
it has high THC content, GG4 is very potent, particularly when you ingest it.
Depending on the amount you take, you can get different effects. On the whole,
you’ll experience the following:
- Feelings
of euphoria - Calmness
and relaxation - Buzzing
sensation - Light/floating
feelings - Rollercoaster
rush sensation (typical effect of THC) - Either
high energy or low* - Positive
emotions
*The
level of energy you’re left with is dependent on a few things. Firstly, you
need to keep track of the dosage. If you don’t have a high tolerance, a large
dose will give you a ‘couch lock.’ In essence, you’ll be confined to sitting
for a while.
Secondly,
the time of day also affects your energy levels. We suggest you experiment at
what times of day the drug suits you best. For some, night time is the ideal
time to take a dosage.
Flavor
According to most users, GG strains, depending on how they’re bred, taste either earthy or sour. Sometimes growers add in chocolate or coffee-like flavor, making the strain taste slightly bitter.
Although
not excessively bitter, this additional flavoring helps users be more alert,
giving a caffeinated effect. Therefore, this helps counter the ‘couch lock’
effect of the Gorilla Glue Strain.
Aroma
Similarly,
the GG strains smell a bit sour. However, depending on its flowering stage, it
can also smell sweet and chocolatey. The chocolate element in its DNA comes
from the Chocolate Diesel strain.
The smell is strong and very noticeable. Therefore, make sure you take precautions before using it, particularly in public.

Wellness and Gorilla Glue #4 autoflower seeds
Gorilla Glue #4 autoflower seeds blossom into plants reaching upward of 20% on the THC scale. Even in small doses, the bud from these beans can provide effective pain relief.
It’s not just the psychoactive component that makes GG4 an excellent wellness strain, though. Compounds like limonene, linalool, myrcene, and pinene are said to provide therapeutic effects mirroring that of THC.
Whether they derive from photoperiod or auto seeds, Gorilla Glue #4 buds are believed to contain anxiolytic (relaxing), analgesic, and anti-microbial properties.
Unlike our selection of wellness strains, Gorilla Glue autoflower seeds don’t produce CBD-rich plants. Still, the GG4 strain is often used to help manage a variety of conditions, including:
— Anxiety
— Stress
— Depression
— Mood disorders
— Post-traumatic stress disorder
— Bipolar disorder
— Chronic pain
— Muscle spasms
— Arthritis
— Premenstrual syndrome
— Multiple sclerosis
— Migraines
— Rheumatism
With its appetite-inducing effects, the Gorilla Glue #4 strain can also help treat eating disorders while mitigating nausea and vomiting. Lastly, this cultivar also makes a fantastic sleeping aid. Its sedative effects don’t kick in for a few hours, but when they do, you’re likely to get some deep, quality shut-eye.

How to Grow Gorilla Glue Autoflower in Veg
Let’s have a look at this plant’s day-by-day progress through the vegetative stage and maybe glean some useful tips from it.
Week 1: Germinated in Coco
At the end of week 1, the Gorilla Glue seedling is quite big but not stretchy. Grow Diaries
As a medium, the grower used a classic 70/30 coco/perlite mix. He decided to put the seeds straight into the medium, without pre-soaking or germinating them. All three, including one FastBuds Gorilla Glue Auto, emerged after 4 days.
Since this Gorilla Glue Auto grow was started in the middle of January, this was convenient in terms of temperature. In summer, an attic grow room would probably be too hot. As it was, the day/night temps were almost perfect:
Gorilla Glue Autoflower grow journal. Day and night temp for weeks 1-13.
Week 2: Good Progress so Far
By week 2, the Gorilla Glue Auto grow was thriving, with the seedling appearing appropriately sized for its age. Planted in an 18-liter smart pot, the grower faced a challenge in watering the young plant. As shown in the photo, the grower watered only a small area around the seedling.
Since most coco mediums don’t come pre-amended with nutrients, he had to add some from week 1. He chose the products by Advanced Nutrients which are kind of pricey but very popular among cannabis gardeners. Most probably, for a reason.
The second pair of true leaves spans wider than the first one, and the 3d one is developing. Grow Diaries.
For the first two weeks, it was only the 3-part pH Perfect combo — Grow, Bloom, and Micro. These products contain all essential macro- and micronutrients. Later, the plants would get a calcium/magnesium formula—an absolute must in coco—and then a whole line of other supplements.
The nutrient schedule for the whole of Gorilla Glue Autoflower grow.
Week 3: The Start of LST
Low-stress training led to an immediate increase in branching. Grow Diaries
Toward the end of week 3, the plant was big enough for the low-stress training. The guy had never done LST before, and he was nervous. As we shall see soon, he was nervous for a reason.
This Gorilla Glue had never been a stretchy and lanky plant, but now, with LST, she was shaping up to be a very squat, dense, and bushy plant. We’d say that the guy also managed to find the perfect (or almost perfect) distance from the light, and this helped keep Gorilla Glue and two other autoflowers nice and compact:
The light distance chart for the whole Gorilla Glue Auto grow journal.
Week 4: Defoliation and Cal-Mag Sprays
The plant looks extremely dense and stocky even after a bit of defoliating and pruning. Grow Diaries
Week 4 was the last week of the vegetative phase in this Gorilla Glue Autoflower journal because, by the end of this week, the first pistils began to come out.
The flowering stretch was yet to begin, and the plant was so dense, the gardener found it difficult to train her. He decided to raise the light 4 inches (see the chart above) to make her expand a bit. He also performed light defoliation and pruned a couple of shoots that were completely shaded.
USE PROMOCODE GET 5% — WEEDKB5
Although none of the girls showed any signs of a deficiency, the gardener thought they would benefit from cal-mag showers. That’s why he was foliar-feeding them with a 6.2 pH solution of Advanced Nutrients Sensi Cal-Mag Extra. By the way, this formula contains not only calcium and magnesium but also iron.
Week 5: A Spurt in Growth
One week’s progress of this Gorilla autoflower is remarkable. Grow Diaries
With the first hairs having appeared in the previous week, this autoflowering Gorilla Glue was clearly in the pre-flowering stage by now. And she really exploded, gaining not so much in height but in girth. She was the second biggest lady in this grow cycle — right after a Blackberry (which would come out a very good producer).

Growing Gorilla Glue weed
If you’re growing outdoors, it’s best to the seeds in the ground in early spring. In the northern hemisphere, this should be around March to April, and in the southern hemisphere, September to October. The plant will grow rapidly once that root ball gets going, but keep in mind that this strain likes a pretty heavy dose of nutes.
We mention a couple of training techniques above, but in all honesty, this strain can take a beating. If you have been looking for a cultivar to do some experimentation with in terms of stress training methods, GG4 is a great option. It takes super well to mainlining, schwazzing, monster cropping — pretty much anything you feel like throwing her way.
GG4 also does super well in all substrates, but if you are just starting out then we recommend grabbing a cannabis-specific soil or coco-coir blend and staying away from complicated hydro setups — at least, for your first few grows.
Coco-coir is perfect for novice cultivators, as it offers a range of benefits associated with both soil-based and hydroponic cultivation styles. This substrate offers far better drainage and aeration than soil, while still holding onto the perfect amount of moisture to promote healthy and robust growth. It is an inherently inert medium, which allows for much finer control over the nutrient schedule and pH levels of the root zone, and works great with both organic or synthetic nutrient options. If you decide to go down the synthetic route, make sure to only use coco-coir-specific blends, but with organic ones, you can pretty much use whatever you like.
We also suggest grabbing either some fabric smart pots or air pots to enhance the oxygenation of the root zone even further. The larger and healthier the roots, the faster the growth will be, and the more of those juicy, glue-covered nuggets you will get come harvest time.
Is Gorilla Glue strain a sativa or indica?
GG4 is a pretty evenly balanced hybrid, with a 60/40 genetic split leaning towards the Indica side of the cannabis family tree.
Is Gorilla Glue a good strain for beginners?
Definitely. No matter your level of expertise, this strain is a relatively easy one to grow and is suitable for both indoor and outdoor growing. The plant usually flowers in around 8-9 weeks and will benefit from a slightly longer than usual vegetative growth period.
So, to answer the question — yes, Gorilla Glue is absolutely a great strain for beginners, intermediate, and advanced growers alike.
If you are a first time grower you may also want to consider growing Gorilla Glue Autoflower instead. Autos flower according to age and not their light cycle, so instead of messing around changing light cycles you can keep them on a simple 20/4 light cycle from start to finish. Autos are also great for any indoor growers with limited space and can easily fit inside a closet, small grow tent or cupboard.
